About This Dish

Scallion pancakes, also known as green onion pancakes, are circular pan-fried flatbreads folded with scallions (also known as green onions or spring onions) and oil, found in restaurants and as street food, and in the frozen section of Asian grocery stores (very convenient, just pan-fry for a few minutes).

Historical Note

There's a theory in China that pizza was invented by Marco Polo based on scallion pancakes (this is not a popular theory in Italy).

**Personal Note

When I was a kid in Southern California, my mom made scallion pancakes using tortillas. I was so surprised when I finally had the real thing. The tortilla version was pretty good, though.
