湯 is soup, and 圓 is ball , so 湯圓 is soup ball.

In some Cantonese-speaking regions, 湯丸 is used with the same pronunciation and meaning.

Boiled balls of glutinous rice with a sweet filling, such as black sesame seeds or crushed peanuts.

These are easy to find frozen in Asian grocery stores. To prepare, just boil a few minutes until they float!
