páahng páahng gāi
The original Sichuan street food consists of shredded steamed or poached chicken served in a spicy sauce with cucumbers, also listed as pon pon chicken (close to the Cantonese pronunciation) or bon bon chicken (close to the Mandarin pronunciation, so the bang is pronunced bong, not bang like in big bang). The Chinese-American version is deep-fried and often topped with mayonnaise, a sign that we're not in Sichuan, anymore (another sign - its presence on the Cheesecake Factory menu).
